In a galaxy not so far far away

Nic the Marketing Manager here! Last year, I had the pleasure of writing my own Browns Books Blog about my own experiences with Star Wars and how the whole saga has shaped my own life. You can find that post here: (https://brownsbfs.co.uk/blog/Star-Wars).

This year, I thought we would try something a little different by bringing together a collection of the Browns Books teams favourite moments in Star Wars.

“There are so many memorable and unbelievable moments in all Star Wars films, books and games that it is hard to pick just one! So, I have decided to go with my favourite movie – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I know, it is not one of the original trilogy, it is not a classic but I just love it the most, it is perfect. And out of all the characters in this movie, K-2SO is definitely the best - a security droid that was originally programmed to aid the Empire’s armed forces but swapped sides to join the Rebel Alliance and bring the Empire down. He is funny, sassy and I fell in love with him. But if I had to pick just one moment in Rogue One that always springs to mind, it is that Darth Vader scene. Right towards the end of the movie, everyone is fighting on the beach of Scariff, and we see the plans to the Death Star get sent up to one of the Rebel ships above orbit. Just after, the Death Star blasts Scariff and we see all the rebel heroes on the planet killed, Jyn and Cassian embrace each other, it is sad and beautiful, and we think that is that.... But then... Darth Vader boards the Rebel Fleet ship, and when I tell you I was sat in the midnight screening of this in the cinema back in 2016, watching everything go red and Vader absolutely annihilating everybody in his path, I had goosebumps. Watching this brand-new Star Wars film start morphing into the beginning of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope - it was just insane and will always be my most memorable moment of Star Wars.”

“I am still new to the Star Wars Saga and slowly making my way through all the films, but my favourite scene so far is Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. I enjoyed the fight for Naboo scene against the droid army with Jar Jar Binks, it has a great comedy aspect really showing Jar Jar’s clumsy nature. I enjoyed this part as it breaks up the film and is not as serious as the rest of the movie making it enjoyable to watch!”

“My favourite Star Wars moment has to be Lukes final confrontation with Darth Vader and the Emperor in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. After a gruelling final battle where he is bested by his son Luke, Vader then chooses to sacrifice himself to save Luke from death at the Emperors (lightning) hands by throwing his master down a reactor shaft (never to be seen again! Unless of course somehow, he returns!) This moment is what the entire saga was leading up to as Anakin fulfils the prophecy of the Chosen One, bringing balance to the Force and restoring hope to the galaxy. It is a profoundly moving and unforgettable conclusion to one of the most iconic characters in history.”

Personally, I think my favourite scenes/moment from Star Wars come not from the films but from the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 7 to be exact. Clone Wars as a whole was an absolutely class series made for the die hard Star Wars fanbase and full of moments that inspired all the new live action series like The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka. Season 7, episodes 7 - 10 the ‘Siege of Mandalore’ follows Anakin’s estranged apprentice Ahsoka Tano who has been recruited by Mandalorian Bo-Katan Kryze to help remove Darth Maul (now effectively known as just Maul) from the throne on her home world of Mandalore. The story perfectly ties off several story arcs including Captain Rex, Ahsoka, Maul and sets up stories for Bo-Katan, Vader and other great Star Wars characters. The scene I really had in mind was the fight scene between Ahsoka and Maul, both excellent and very acrobatic with their fighting styles made for a very exciting watch where Ahsoka eventually bested Maul. This leads me to the second part of my favourite scene in which Ahsoka /Maul fight ties in to which is in the new(ish) Ahsoka series when Ahsoka is bested by Baylan Skoll and ends up facing Vader in the world between worlds in a force vision-esque theme. In this scene, we see an epic fight with Vadar and flash backs to the Clone Wars including the ‘Siege of Mandalore’. All in all a fantastic tie up of the story from the Clone Wars and an exceptional story arc too.
